Our Mission
To rebuild the relationship between the consumer and those who locally grow and prepare their food for consumption.
Our Story
In 1954 Henry Luce said, “Progress is the business of America”. By the year 2020 “progress” had been in full force in all aspects of Americans lives for decades and yet this same year a world-wide pandemic known as Covid-19 brought all that “progress” to its knees. Unprecedented food shortages nationwide was most alarming. Living amongst the farmers and ranchers of the Idaho countryside, we knew there was not a shortage of food but rather the supply chain from producer to consumer was broken. While America was so focused on “progress,” we somehow overlooked the importance of local food production and the availability for the consumer to find and obtain it easily. This was not an issue for our grandparents who often knew the person who grew their food and purchased food from their neighbors regularly.
This awakening determined our founder to bridge the gap between the producer and the consumer of local foods. With this desire in the heart, we set out to create something special - A butcher shop where quality and integrity were more than a marketing ploy, where every animal was treated with care and respect, and where the community could trust the food they ate and have ready access to it, hence, The Corner Butcher Shop was born.
As cattle ranchers worldwide have long known, the incomparable taste of a perfect steak begins with the best cattle. So we started teaming up with Local ranchers to provide the perfect steak every time. Processes such as proper grain finishing and dry-aging have allowed us to offer a quality that often went by the wayside to make room for “progress”.
Today
We have grown slowly but surely in the community. Our goal is to continually add more and more local products to our offering. What started off as just beef and pork has expanded to poultry and processed meats. With this and much more to come, we hope you find The Corner Butcher Shop to be a valuable partner in your quest to feed your family responsibly from local growers.
Though the road is filled with challenges, we will never waiver in our commitment. For us, the true measure of success is not in profit margins or market share, but in the smiles of our customers and the knowledge that we are making our community better.
Our Beef and Pork:
Sourced from the local agricultural community, our cows live on farms with plenty of pasture space to play and graze. Many spend their summer months grazing the beautifully green grassy mountain pastures of Idaho. All are then grain-finished to provide the best flavor of meat around (grass finished is available by request). Our pigs eat an all-vegetarian diet (less some milk proteins), our pigs never consume hormones, and are raised by local farmers using sustainable farming methods.
